The War of Independence was won with the Commander-in-Chief War won on 30 August 1922. On October 13, 1923, Foreign Minister Ismet Inonu and 14 deputies submitted a proposal to the Turkish Grand National Assembly for Ankara, which became the center of the war of freedom and independence during the War of Independence, to become the capital. This proposal was approved by voters in the Assembly. Thus, on October 13, 1923, Ankara became the capital of the Republic of Turkey.
