The steps are being taken for the Istanbul Canal Project
The Istanbul Canal project, the largest project in the history of the Republic, is being implemented. The preliminary preparation and research studies of the project, which was first announced by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan in 2011, have come to an end. In the first tender held in March 2020, companies that will carry historical bridges on the route were determined.
President Recep Tayyip Erdogan stated that the tender phase for the project has now reached and said that "Our biggest project ahead of us is the Istanbul Canal Project, which I call 'Crazy Project. Currently, there is an intense demand for the Istanbul Canal Project. There are domestic and global. If you pay attention, there is no stopping our investments as of now. Our investments continue as infrastructure and superstructure. The number one project worth noting among these is the Istanbul Canal Project. The architectural dimension of the project is ready; besides, all technical dimensions are ready. It has now reached the tender stage of the job. Istanbul will reach a very different appearance and a very different power in the international sense with the Istanbul Canal Project by taking this step as soon as possible".
Minister of Environment and Urbanization Murat Kurum, who spoke at the TBMM General Assembly during the 2021 budget negotiations recently, made statements about the Istanbul Canal Project. Mr. Kurum, "We're having the largest conversion project in the history of the Republic together with our Ministry of Transport to life. We are taking the steps the Istanbul Canal Project, which will be the most environmentally-friendly project of Turkey with ecological corridors and protect Bosphorus" said.

The Istanbul Canal is a project that will be implemented on the European Side of Istanbul and is planned as an alternative passage corridor to the Bosphorus. This project, aimed to;
- increase and protect the security of the historical and cultural texture of the Bosphorus,

- create a new waterway open to international maritime traffic,
